Facebook has been testing a new way to find people you know, with the feature being dubbed ‘shortcuts’, a similar ID to your phone number.
This feature gives you a unique 8-digit number to give out to friends, or to use instead of searching by names. When you enter your friend’s shortcut, you’ll be taken straight to their page.
This feature appears to only have rolled out to a little amount of users, and it could be an interesting way to find friends beyond URL’s and phone numbers. It seems like this move is also very logical, seeing as many users don’t want to share their phone number with the service for a lack of privacy.
I’m not sure if this is easier than searching up someone’s name, but it could be an interesting feature if rolled out more broadly.
